TREVORROW ENDS CAMPAIGN FOR CONGRESS

ERIE, PA – Tom Trevorrow released the following statement today announcing his withdrawal from the race for the Republican nomination in Pennsylvania’s Third Congressional District:

This past Thursday, February 11, 2010, my father received a completely unexpected diagnosis of cancer.  A biopsy is planned, but it is felt to be pancreatic cancer.

I am withdrawing from the race to help my father with his care and treatments.  I want to thank the people who so passionately supported me and most importantly supported our message of limited government, quality healthcare and fiscal responsibility.  The Republican candidates running for the nomination in the Third Congressional District all appear to be good people and fine citizens who are running for the right reasons.  I wish them well, and I will continue to support Republican candidates who share my views.

I would ask that your thoughts and prayers go out to my father, George, during this trying time.

Meet Dr. Tom Trevorrow

Tom Trevorrow was born in Nemacolin, PA, a small coal mining town in southwestern Pennsylvania. His father, a mining engineer, worked long days in the coal mines, while his mother stayed at home and raised a frugal and happy family. The family moved to Ebensburg, PA, when Tom was a child. Tom attended public school and excelled in academics and sports.

After graduation, Tom attended Ohio State University majoring in biochemistry with a minor in Russian. His Russian minor afforded him the opportunity to spend a summer in the Soviet Union where he saw first hand the travesty of communism and a government run society. Tom graduated Phi Beta Kappa and with honors in the liberal arts. He then attended Ohio State Medical School where he was active in student government. He was accepted into an ophthalmology residency – one of the more competitive to attain.

familypicAfter an internship year in Dayton, OH, where Tom spent many sleepless nights taking care of patients, he moved to New Orleans for his specialty training in eye surgery. Tom then returned to Pennsylvania and worked in Harrisburg, PA, for a short time before buying his own practice in Indiana, PA not more than 30 miles from his childhood home. Tom manages a large eye surgery practice where he has treated many patients from Pennsylvania’s Third Congressional District for the past 16 years. Tom has also served on the board of directors of the local Humane Society and VNA Hospice.

In 2002, he met and fell in love with the former Kathy DiPlacido. Kathy is a nurse who worked in the labor and delivery room prior to becoming a sales representative. Kathy is now a full-time devoted mother and wife raising their two children John and Daniel. Although Kathy loves Indiana, she has always wished to return home to Erie, PA, where she has a large immediate family and a huge extended family.

In the last 15 months, Tom became convinced that he needed to do more than just his usual financial support of conservative causes. He felt compelled to help stem the unprecedented attacks on our liberties. Tom and his family went to Washington, DC, where he served in a voluntary internship position in the office of U.S. Senator Tom Coburn. He returned home even more passionate about a need for change. He and Kathy made the decision to move to Erie and run for Congress. Tom brings a knowledge of the southern part of the district through his medical practice which is within eleven miles of its southeast border. He also knows the northwest part where he was married and through his his many visits, relatives and friends in Erie. Tom brings his work ethic, knowledge and passion to this race, and a strong commitment to help take back America.
